Need A Wasp Nest Removed?
Where possible if nests are found well away from potential risk of stinging or causing annoyance to homeowners etc, I would question the destruction of nests as wasps also destroy many insect pests in gardens.
Where there is cause that individuals in the household are of a hypersensitive nature and are likely to suffer an anaphylactic shock from a sting, then I would recommend treatment of that nest.
Old nests are not re-used as thought but a new nest can be built close to an old one.

Where Can Nests Be Found
Nests can be found in soil banks, roof spaces, wall cavities and trees/ bushes.
Colonies only survive one season in the UK,with new ones started each spring by overwintered queens.

Wasp Season
The fertilised queen wasp emerges from hibernation around mid- April and searches for a suitable site to start a colony. From chewed bark & dried timber mixed with saliva she makes the initial “ cell” which is smaller than a golf ball.
The Eggs
Within individual chambers inside the cell she lays between 10-20 eggs feeding the resultant larvae on insects and other invertebrates.
